I -Weatherization Training

Iowa Western Community College, as Lead Agency for Southwest Iowa Energy Sector Team, offers a multiple weatherization opportunities for participants with construction experience and inexperienced participants.The Department of Energy’s standardized weatherization training is utilized for these training programs. These programs offers preparatory classroom lessons, hands-on lab and field experiences for incumbent workers, unemployed, underemployed, and displaced adults, including veterans, high school drop-outs, and applicants with limited English skills.

Weatherization Technician/Installer
This program offers weatherization installation basics to individuals with both with and without construction experience. Using the DOE curriculum, you will have classroom lessons, hands-on labs and field experience in weather-stripping, insulation, caulking, and door and window installation.

Weatherization Crew Chief
This program trains new and experienced individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to be a safe, competent, and productive leader of a weatherization crew. Using the DOE curriculum as a standard the training includes weatherization competencies, lead safe work practices, basic codes, crew safety, productivity skills, knowledge of weatherization opportunities and leadership skills needed to be a crew chief. This comprehensive course introduces participants to the specifics of weatherization and the complex ways buildings and their systems interact with each other.

Energy Auditor
This class will be offered the 2nd half of 2012.

Bringing I-Weatherize to Southwest Iowa

In the summer of 2010, Iowa Western Community College through the Iowa Power Fund, was able to introduce a mobile weatherization training trailer. Working with companies, towns and organizations, IWCC was able to bring weatherization training to communities throughout Southwest Iowa.
