Questions to ask a 4-year College

Before visiting with a four- year institution you should be prepared with some questions to ask. Below is a list of questions that could be addressed on a campus visit, or during the Transfer Fair:

Ask About Academics...
  1. What majors or programs do you offer?
  2. Can I obtain my bachelor’s degree in 2 years after completing my associate’s degree?
  3. What percentage of your students graduate?
  4. Will I have to take more general education courses?
  5. Is tutoring available?
  6. What is the average class size? What is the largest?
Questions for Academic Department Representatives
  1. What specific courses should I take before transferring?
  2. What internships or co-ops are available as part of your program?
Ask About Admissions...
  1. Do you have an enrollment deadline for transfer students?
  2. What are the transfer admissions requirements?
  3. Are there special program requirements for my major?
  4. What is the process of having credits transferred?
  5. What GPA is required for acceptance into your school and my program of study?
    • * What overall GPA and program GPA is needed to obtain a degree in my program of study?
  6. What is the total number of credits that your institution will accept?
    • * Do my accepted credits meet degree requirements at your school? If yes, how do they fit in? If no, why don’t they fit in?
  7. After I transfer, how much longer will it take for me to get my Bachelor’s degree from your school?
    • * What specific general education, core, general elective or other courses will I need?
  8. What requirements do I need to take at your school to complete my degree?
Ask About Financial Aid...
  1. What type of financial aid is available?
  2. How do I apply for financial aid?
  3. Do you have a financial aid deadline?
  4. Are there transfer scholarships available through your college?
  5. What is the total cost of my program including books, fees & tuition?
Ask About Student Life...
  1. What types of student housing are available? How much does it cost?
  2. How many students are enrolled at your college?
  3. Are there opportunities for intramural sports?
  4. Are there athletic teams?
  5. Do you have student organizations, socials, and activities?
Ask About Job Placement Assistance...
  1. Does your school offer job placement assistance?
  2. Do you offer part-time job assistance?
  3.  What are the job placement statistics for your graduates and what types of jobs are they being offered?
Ask About Technology...
  1. Can I take any of my classes online?
  2. What is the availability of computers at your school?
  3. Do you have a wireless campus?
