New Facilities

Center for Advanced Nursing and Allied Health
On Monday, February 21, 2011, Iowa Western unveiled the Center for Advanced Nursing and Allied Health Education. By controlling high-fidelity patient simulator mannequins, faculty are able to create simulated medical environments for students in our Nursing, Medical Assisting, Paramedic, and Surgical Technology programs. In a safe, controlled environment, our students can practice real-life situations such as gunshot wounds, amputations, and fractures with patient simulators that can mimic a real human being. They can speak in two different languages, breath, cough, bleed, and even give birth. The center is set up like a mock hospital and includes fully-equipped rooms for labor and delivery, a nursery, an ambulance, emergency room, four surgical suites, and a medical assisting lab. Each room contains video and audio recording devices which allow students and faculty to review footage together, greatly enhancing the learning experience.
New Student Center
Students seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of daily college life can come to the Student Center to lounge by one of the fireplaces with a hot latte from the Cyber Café, study in a private computer lab in the Cyber Library, or challenge a friend to a game of pool or a Wii bowling macth in the Student Life Center. The Student Center serves as the hub for Iowa Western student life, whether students are looking for a relaxing environment to socialize and hangout or they just want a comfortable place to study.
