About the Program
The field of electronic engineering is wide and varied, and it offers new and exciting options for college students. Iowa Western’s Electronic Engineering Technology program can prepare you to enter four primary electronics areas:
- Bio-medical electronics
- Industrial electronics
Working toward an Associate of Applied Science degree, you’ll also be versed in high technology theory in industrial electronics, microelectronics, and optoelectronics. You’ll start by studying basic electricity concepts and advance toward more complex devices and systems.
Field trips give students onsite experience. You’ll also get networking experience, which is always helpful when searching for employment.
This program is designed for students intending to enter the workforce upon completion of this two-year degree. This program prepares students for a technical-level career in manufacturing, service, and sales in four primary electronics fields: computers, telecommunications, bio-medical electronics, and industrial electronics. Graduates are employed as technicians in the installation and maintenance of various electronic systems and equipment, including power distribution, security, medical, ATMs, telecommunication, aviation and manufacturing. The local job market is strong with major employers needing to replace most of the electronic technicians in the next 10 years.
Upon the successful completion of the program students will:
- Demonstrate and use fundamental aspects of electronics engineering technology.
- Create processes to problems that efficiently identify problems and effectively use available resources to propose solutions.
- Operate as part of an engineering team.
- Develop a self-directed learning style that is able to adapt to changing technology.
- Recognize effective communications.
