About the Program

Get on board with this expanding career field. This certificate program is designed to provide the basic skills and knowledge needed for entry-level jobs in the manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of wind turbines and solar energy systems, in just 4 months. 

Program to Include

  • Introduction to Renewable Energy
    Provides you with a survey of the wind, solar and alternative fuel industries. You’ll study the development, construction and operation of wind farms, solar farms and alternative fuels systems.
  • Introduction to Solar Energy
    You’ll study the development, construction and operation of solar panels with emphasis on operation and maintenance. You’ll examine both photovoltaic and thermal panels in detail and develop a familiarity with standard procedures.
  • Introduction to Wind Energy
    The development, construction and operation of wind farms will be studied, with emphasis on the operation and maintenance of wind turbines. You’ll examine wind turbines in detail and develop a familiarity with standard procedures, tools, ad the subsystems that comprise the wind turbine.
  • Introduction to Alternative Fuels
    Provides you with an overview of the alternative fuel industry and the production processes employed in that industry. You’ll study the development, construction and operations of ethanol, bio-diesel and natural gas industries.· Mechanical Power TransmissionDesigned to give you an overview of the terminology, theory of operation and specific devices involved in the movement of energy. Belts, chains gears, shafts, hydraulics, and pneumatics will be examined. Emphasis will be on systems used in wind energy.
  • Fundamentals of Lean Process
    The focus will be on learning and practicing Lean methods of minimizing waste, increasing efficiency and improving quality within organizations. This course provides basic understanding and practical applications of organization techniques, Lean mapping tools, streamlining works processes and problem-solving methodologies. 

Career & Salary Information

This certificate program prepares you for entry-level positions in the manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of renewable energy systems. 

Solar Thermal Installer and Technician annual wage is *$42,684. They install or repair solar energy systems designed to collect, store, and circulate solar-heated water for residential, commercial or industrial use.

Solar Photovoltaic Installer annual wage is *$39,597. They assemble, install, or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. May include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules. 

Geothermal Technician annual wage is *$36,610. They perform technical activities at power plants or individual installations necessary for the generation of power from geothermal energy sources.

Wind turbine Service Technician annual wage is *$48,558. They inspect, diagnose, adjust, or repair wind turbines. Perform maintenance on wind turbine equipment including resolving electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic malfunctions.

Graduates of this program are awarded a certificate. Enter the workforce, or students who wish to complete an
advanced degree may continue on to complete Sustainable Energy Technology A.A.S.
